Questions: Chapter 5

  1. Did you know that there are currently three different versions of marriage that are shaping the intentions, expectations, and practices of spouses in our culture? Do you have any idea what they would be? Why might you need to know what they are?
  2. What do you learn about the first couple from the Genesis narrative? (Identify at least five things). What is the relevance of this information to you as a single person living in the 21st century?
  3. What are the component parts of marriage as instituted by God?  Why is it important to understand a biblical definition of marriage?
  4. In God’s pattern for marriage, covenant precedes consummation. Does this sequence matter? Why?
  5. In the Introduction to Part 3 (pages 77-78), what was the point of the opening analogy with the sport of cricket? Did this chapter help you to understand the original “game” of marriage? What ideas stood out to you?
  6. Dedicate some pages of a journal (or a computer file) to the creation of a “profile” of a prospective mate. Based on what you learned in this chapter, what qualities would you look for in a potential spouse?
